JUNIOR ROAD RACING AND THE MOTORCYCLE SPORTSMEN

The Motorcycle Sportsmen of Qld encourage Juniors to participate at all of the club's eligible road race events.  Club coaches such as Craig Alick provide their expertise and experience to ensure that a Junior competitors step into the world of bitumen racing is safe and fun!

Practice nights are made available to all Juniors twice a month at the Ipswich Kart Track at Willowbank.  Motorcycling Australia licensed juniors as well as novices are welcome.

Novice Juniors are offered the opportunity to undertake the Motorcycling Australia Junior "Kick Start" program which provides a formal coaching outline for beginners within our sport.  This program is conducted by qualified coaches who donate their time to ensure that the Juniors have the best possible start when  finally taking to the bitumen for the first time.

Juniors are required to undertake this program prior to being permitted to compete or obtain a Motorcycling Australia Competition licence.

Safety is of course the first priority in all racing, especially with Junior competition.  With this in mind, if you are not considered ready by the coach conducting your Kick Start training, you will not be signed off until they are confident that you can safely handle your motorcycle and have a suitable understanding of the rules involved in our sport.  There is no way to short cut this process, it is a mandatory step into road racing.

The Kick Start program and the coaches time is provided free of charge, however, there is usually a track access fee of $50.00 per practice session.  Practice sessions run for approximately 5 hours per night (1st Mon & 3rd Sat of each month).  It may take you two or three practice nights to finalise your Kick Start requirements but when complete, both the club and your parents can be satisifed that you are ready to take the step into competition.

Classes of Junior competition promoted by the Motorcycle Sportsmen include:  J2 - 50cc manual clutch and gears for 9 to under 12 years of age; J3 - up to 70cc manual clutch and gears for 9 to under 12 years of age; J4 - up to 85cc 2 stroke and 150cc 4 stroke manual clutch and gears for 12 to under 16 years of age.

If you would like any further information about getting started, would like to attend a practice night and do your Kick Start program or already have an MA licence for another racing discipline and would like to give road racing a go, please give us a call or email and we'll be only too happy to help.
